Growing up in Temple City,I've been coming here for more than 20 years. I remember the restaurant owners' daughter used to be in this little closet space by the cashier, doing homework or casually drawing. Now she is an Olympic Medalist! However, tonight is my first visit in a really long time. The restaurant looks and feels the same, nothing much has changed, including the menu. Parking is available in the back or street parking in the front. The menu consists of Dinner Sets (teriyaki chicken/beef, fish, tempura etc). "A La Carte" items like tempura, sushi mix, sashimi mix. Udon, soups, and smaller dishes. Sushi menu is comparable to others, the typical salmon, tuna, yellowtail, scallops, uni, toro etc. They also have some "specials" printed on 8x11 papers taped around the restaurant. What I like is that they only have a few "special rolls", unlike those AYCE sushi places that has a sushi roll named after each alphabet.
We ordered salmon, yellow tail and red snapper sushi, an A La Carte order of seafood tempura (fish, shrimp, small scallop/squid ball) which also came with soup rice and salad, salmon skin hand rolls, a giant shrimp tempura hand roll, and a Maki-Chan roll (baked scallop on top of CA roll). Everything was fresh and tasty. We also had a large sake to go along with the meal. Our check came out to be $70 inclusive of tips and tax. The owners are still as nice as ever. This is a family owned restaurant and the family/homey vibe is what I enjoy the most. If you are in the area, or grew up in the area and have no tried this place, I definitely would recommend it. -

The waitress is nice and friendly.
The cashier is abit unfriendly but still okay.

Theyre lacking people obviously and thers aloooong wait time for the food to come out.

I want to try to avoid using "best" but this is the best sushi spot in the 626. Their fish is always fresh and the meals are prepared with quality and care. I come here pretty often with my family when we're craving sushi and I highly recommend it! Where do I even start?
My go-to meal is the sashimi & tempura combo. It comes with 8 pieces of sashimi (usually 3 tuna, 3 albacore, 2 salmon) and mixed tempura of veggies & shrimp (although you can request just vegetable tempura if you don't like shrimp; I've done this when my family won't eat the shrimp tempura portion for me). I've also had the Ja-ja udon with sashimi combo. Ja-ja udon is udon noddles with meat and no soup. It's really good and filling. For rolls, my go to is the "Ringo Roll" which is basically a spicy tune roll topped with salmon and dried apples. It is a one of a kind that provides an interesting and delicious flavor.
Some favorites of my family include the Nikado roll, the he-roll (as this has no rice) and the broiled mackerel & tempura combo. Honestly it's a must try if you're in the area. You really can't go wrong.
Fun fact: Mirai Nagusu's (the figure skater) parents owns this place. They are super friendly! -

I have actually been here multiple times since my first visit. The first time I came here I wasn't amused, but I come here whenever I don't know what to eat for lunch. I always get the vegetable tempura because it's delicious!! The spicy tuna cut roll is always the way to go and their lunch plates are pretty good as well. They come with miso soup and a small side salad. I don't recommend the special rolls as much. I'd stick to sashimi or any simple roll.

It's been a while since I've visited this place and I've forgotten what a bargain this place can be.
Several of the combo offerings on the luncheon menu, are under $9. That's just slight more than a burrito at Chipotle.
Urasawa or Matsuhisa it is not; but, you'll be paying a fraction of what those places charge. Portions of the food is large and quality is good relative to the price.
The tempura batter is better than most places most places I've been to. They obviously know when not to over mix the flour and the cold water. The only negative was they used shrimps that have been preserved with sodium tripolyphosphate, which unfortunately are all too prevalent nowadays. These shrimps have a weird crunchy texture and a strong sulfur smell that is a real turn-off.
